In the Blackout: Before You Alight Make Sure the Train Is in the Station
British Second World War poster cautioning passengers to look for a platform during blackout. Text in the bottom right corner of the poster reads: 'Before you alight make sure the train is in the station. Look for platform.' Depicts a man peering from a diamond shaped window, with the symbol of the London Underground underneath it. The style is slightly surrealist, and turns a straightforward message into an intriguing design. Zero introduces a film noir, cinematic quality to this series of posters. The blackout of cities was hazardous, and the incidence of fatalities in transport accidents was quite high. This poster is one in a series issued by London Transport designed by Zero. Zero (also known by the name Hans Schleger) designed posters for London Transport between 1935-1947.
