Description

Squadron Leader (Sqn Ldr) Ralph 'Smokey' Dawson of Highett, Vic, stationed at RAAF Overseas Headquarters in London, shows his Distinguished Flying Cross to his wife Velma after an investiture at Buckingham Palace. Sqn Ldr Dawson was the first Australian to be decorated by Her Majesty the Queen at Buckingham Palace after the Coronation. He won the DFC for his service with 77 Squadron RAAF in Korea.
