Description
Second World War Australian poster depicting the god Mars with a cooking pot of blood and bones, holding a menu of wars and lives lost by wounds and sickness in various campaigns during the 19th and 20th centuries, including the Boer War and Gallipoli campaign. The figure of Oliver Twist stands opposite Mars, with a plate, asking 'what shall I have this time?'. This poster is a variation of one redrawn by Army Cinesound for use in Army Hygiene strip films, reproduced in 'Germ war in pictures' by Major H Shannon in the journal 'Salt', vol.5, no.10, 18 January 1943, p.10.
