In the blackout: pause as you leave the station's light
British Second World War poster commissioned by London Transport to assist commuters to travel safely during blackouts. The image depicts two male faces wearing bowler hats dramatically shaded in half light. The style is surrealist, and the overall design incorporates the text and image to create a sense of mystery. The poster indicates a preferred way of alighting from a platform during blackout. It advises commuters to pause so their eyes can adjust to the darkness before hurrying away from the station. The title is separate and positioned in the upper quarter, in white outlined grey, in red and in black. The text is partially integrated and placed in the lower quarter, in black. The London Transport emblem is located in the upper right. This poster is one in a series issued by London Transport designed by Zero. Zero (Hans Schleger 1898 - 1976) designed posters for London Transport between 1935-1947.
