Description

A mounted portrait of 420154 Flying Officer (FO) Norman Harold Craig in uniform. FO Craig of Mortdale, NSW, enlisted in the RAAF as a 21 year old on 11 October 1941. FO Craig graduated as a pilot on 23 October 1942 and was posted to 43 Squadron RAF in the Middle East, flying Mk IX Spitfires. On 15 November 1943, whilst flying near Naples, Italy, he was shot down and killed in action. He was originally buried beside his plane, but was later moved to Minturno War Cemetery, North of Naples. On the front of the photograph, which was sent to his fiance Mavis, is an inscription 'To the sweetest little girl in the world. With all my love Craig'.
