A group of unidentified Australian soldiers carrying 18 pounder ammunition up to the guns. Wearing shorts and minimal clothing in the summer heat, the men are carrying the shells in pouches suspended on their backs and shoulders, as well as other equipment. The hilly country prevented the use of vehicles, leaving the majority of the transport work to fatigue parties, which proved a severe physical strain.
