Shredded cabbage
Description
British Second World War poster issued by the Ministry of Food advertising shredded cabbage for use in salads. With chronic food shortages in Britain during the Second World War, two issues faced the Government, the production of home grown vegetables and the maintenance of a healthy population and labour force. This poster addresses both issues, the use of shredded cabbage, a home grown vegetable, and the promotion of healthy eating. The central image is a stylised graphic of a pair of hands chopping cabbage on a wooden chopping board. The title text is above the image in green with the rest of the text in orange and black below. The insignia for the Ministry of Food is located in the lower right.
