Description

All kinds of articles are dropped for the fighting mens' needs. Here NX18480 Sergeant Harry Whaling of Sydney, NSW, Private (Pte) Joseph George (Joe or Shorty) Law of Hobart, Tas, and Pte Bill Madley (?), of Riverina, NSW, are preparing to deliver an urgently awaited, huge truck tyre. The soldiers are members of 2/160th Australian Supply Depot Platoon. Sergeant Whaling, a veteran of Gallipoli and the Western Front in the First World War, along with VX50622 Ted Collins, was killed in an accident on 17 February 1945. Photographed for a pictorial article called "Biscuit bombing", believed to have been published in the Women's Weekly.
