Description
Studio portrait of 2nd Lieutenant (2nd Lt) John Harold Sterling (Stirling), 21st Battalion, of Flemington, Vic. 2nd Lt Sterling enlisted on 6 July 1915 and was later appointed to the 60th Battalion. He was killed in action on 19 July 1916 during the Battle of Fromelles in France and was awarded the Military Cross (MC) posthumously on 26 September 1916.
