Description
Studio portrait of 1145 Staff Sergeant (SSgt) Harold Nicholl Bott, 6th Reinforcements, 12th Light Horse Regiment, of Singleton, NSW, aged 28 years. SSgt Bott enlisted on 27 August 1915 and embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Hawkes Bay on 21 October 1915. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant on 27 March 1916 and transferred to the 4th Division Artillery section, and then on 1 October 1916 he was promoted to Lieutenant (Lt). He received a gun shot wound to the left foot and suffered from shock on 14 February 1917. Lt Bott returned to Australia on 30 January 1918 after being gassed in Belgium.
