The Scream
Description
'The Scream' depicts an intense and powerful image of a skull-like head with mouth agape in the left hand corner of the canvas. Below it are forms of a snake and lizard, as well as a self-portrait of the artist. These images overlap faces and rows of eyes. This is one of the artist's few war works that deal directly with his experiences and memories of the Auschwitz concentration camp.
