Description
The padre conducts the church parade for soldiers on board HMAT Ascanius after leaving England. Six months after the end of the war, there were men to be repatriated to Australia. Most of the paperwork relating to their demobilisation was completed in Britain. While waiting they could attend classes as part of the AIF Education Scheme. 'Family ships' were arranged at intervals to carry men with wives and young children. Sometimes men found themselves quarantined on reaching Australia because of the influenza epidemic.
