Returned Sailors and Soldiers Imperial League of Australia membership badge, 1919 : Lieuenant E T Hearne
RSSILA membership badge with impressed serial number reverse '70619'. The badge shows a sailor and soldier with rifles surrounded by a blue enamel circle with the words 'RETURNED SAILORS & SOLDIERS IMPERIAL LEAGUE'. Underneath is a red enamelled banner with the word 'AUSTRALIA'. The badge is surmounted by a King's Crown with the date '1919' in the middle.
Associated with 6862 Lieutenant Ernest Tasman Hearne. Lt Hearne enlisted on 30 June 1915 and served as a Gunner with 4 Field Artillery Brigade. He was promoted to Lieutenant and served with 2 Division Artillery. He was gassed in late 1917 and returned to Australia on 2 March 1919. During World War Two he served as a Major with an Anti Tank Battery of the Royal Australian Artillery. His service number was N1199827.
