The Maplemore at sea
Description
A four-masted sailing ship, No 65, SS Maplemore is under full steam at sea. Smoke billows in a long stream from a red funnel with coloured upper stripes. The sky is cloud-covered; the ship carries an Australian naval flag at its helm. A tall sailing ship is seen in the right background. The Maplemore was used to transport the Bushmens' contingents to South Africa during the Boer War, 1899-1902.
