Description
An illuminated framed portrait of 6210 Private (Pte) Harold David Murray, 20th Battalion, of Forest Lodge, NSW. A wool wash labourer, he enlisted on 28 June 1916. He was killed in action at Polygon Wood in Belgium on 20 September 1917, aged 19 years. Pte Murray has no known grave and his name is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial at Ypres. This commemorative portrait, made for a sibling, has a portrait of Pte Murray inset behind a reverse painted glass panel that features the Australian and Union flags and a ship above the portrait and a cartouche, including two waratahs and four flannel flowers below, and carries the inscription; "Pte H Murray" and "My brother is fighting for his King & Country".
