Description

Two letters written by 1256 Private John Joseph Moran who served with the 4th Light Horse Regiment during the First World War. Letter of 1 November 1915, written to his brother Tom, is a very detailed account of his voyage to Egypt on the SS Hororata, arriving at Port Suez on 27 October 1915. Moran discusses on board provisions, accommodation, weather and his transfer to Government Hospital in Suez after catching the measles. The second letter of 13 November 1918 written from the Western Front describes the signing of the Armistice.
