First camp meat
Description
Three men leading a water-buffalo calf into camp; crouching figure left foreground; huts and trees in background. This is the Konyu Camp, October 1942, and the first camp meat that the prisoners had seen. The prisoners had to hold the calf while the Japanese commandant attempted to torture it by putting lit cigarettes in its eyes.
