Description
Studio portrait of 3004 Lance Corporal Alan McLean Anderson, 7th Reinforcements, 24th Battalion, of Broadway, Jeparit, Vic. He enlisted on 10 July 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Commonwealth on 26 November 1915. He later transferred to the 8th Battalion and was killed in action on 2 May 1917 on the Bapaume-Bullecourt Road, France. His brother, 1653 Sergeant Adrian Frank Anderson, who served with the 58th Battalion was also killed on 2 September 1918. Their family made a memorial card with their son's portraits. Beneath Alan's portrait reads: 'Alan McLean Anderson Lance Corporal 8th Battalion Who was killed in action in France May 2, 1917 Aged 23 years United in life and death'. See also P03776.001.
