Portrait of PX50 Lt George Edward Martin and V147336 (VFX111185) Egyptsia Ivie (Gypsie) Blezard, possibly on their wedding day. Egyptsia was the daughter of Lieutenant Colonel Ivie Blezard, who served as a Major in the 7th Battalion in the First World War. She was born in 1914 while her father was in Egypt. A nurse in civilian life, Egyptsia enlisted in the Australian Army Nursing Service in October 1942, reaching the rank of Lieutenant. She served in New Guinea with 2/5 Australian General Hospital during 1943 and 1944. Lt George Martin enlisted in Port Moresby, New Guinea, in 1942 and served with the Royal Australian Engineers. Egyptsia Blezard married George Martin on 14 June 1944 at Watson’s Bay, Sydney. Both continued their service and discharged in 1946. (See also 053510, P04072.001 and P04072.002)
