Description
Memoir written by Ernie Jamieson in 1994 describing his experiences as an Able Seaman in the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) during the Second World War. The memoir documents his training at Flinders Naval Depot and includes an eye-witness account of the Japanese midget submarine attack on Sydney Harbour, 31 May 1942. Jamieson also relates his service as ASDIC operator on HMAS Arunta and its participation in naval operations as a party of the US 7th Fleet troop landings in New Britain, Dutch New Guinea, 1943-1944. Other operations include the invasion of the Philippines in 1944 and the Lingayen landings in January 1945.
