Outside portrait of 233 Sergeant (Sgt) Henry John Giles MM; 814 Sergeant (Sgt) Edward Bayliss, both of the 19th Battalion, after participating in a running race. The handwritten inscription on the front states that Sgt Giles came second in the half- mile cross country whilst Sgt Bayliss won the one hundred yards race. Sgt Giles, originally of Southhampton, England, enlisted in Sydney on 24 February 1915 and died of wounds in France on 1 September 1918, aged 28 years.
