Description
Studio portrait of 4503 Private (Pte) Percy James Godlington, 14th Reinforcements, 6th Battalion, of Melbourne, Vic (originally from Cambridge, England). A ship's doctor's steward from the SS Cedric, he left his ship on its arrival in Melbourne and enlisted immediately in the AIF. He enlisted on 5 November 1915 and embarked aboard HMAT Themistocles in Melbourne on 28 January 1916. He was killed in action on 16 August 1916 at Pozieres, France. His death was originally commemorated at the Villers Bretonneux Memorial for servicmen without a known grave, but in the 1930s his body was located and he was then reburied at the London Cemetery and Extension.
