Darge Photographic Company collection of negatives
Description
A. Shaw. Studio portrait of 955 Private (Pte) Alexander John Shaw, 3rd Reinforcements, 13th Australian Light Horse Regiment (later 2nd Divisional Ammunition Column). A farmer of Morwell, Victoria, he embarked on 21 May 1915. He was wounded in action on 11 August 1918 and returned to Australia on 27 April 1919. See also DA10001. This is one of a series of photographs taken by the Darge Photographic Company which had a permit to take photographs at the Broadmeadows and Seymour army camps during the First World War. In the 1930s, the Australian War Memorial purchased the original glass negatives from Algernon Darge, along with the photographers' notebooks. The notebooks contain brief details, usually a surname or unit name, for each negative.
