Studio portrait of either: 4892 Private (Pte) Frederick Stevens, 15th Reinforcements, 8th Battalion,of Elsternwick, Vic; or 4918 Pte Frederick Stevens, 15th Reinforcements, 6th Battalion, of Pyalong, Vic. He is accompanied by another unidentified soldier and two female companions. 4892 Pte Stevens enlisted on 13 November 1915 and embarked aboard HMAT Wiltshire in Melbourne, as acting sergeant, on 7 March 1916. He returned to Australia as a sergeant and a member of the 60th Battalion on 10 January 1918. 4918 Pte Stevens enlisted on 28 December 1915 and embarked aboard HMAT Wiltshire in Melbourne on 7 March 1916. On 19 April 1916 he transferred to the 4th Divisional Cyclist Corps. On 9 July 1916 he transferred to the 1st Anzac Cyclist Battalion. On 15 February 1918 he was appointed as a gunner in the 5th Divisional Ammunition Column. He returned to Australia on 5 March 1919. On 23 April 1919, he disappeared, suspected drowned, whilst bathing at back beach Portsea, Vic.
