Description
Collection relating to 71 Chief Petty Officer Henry Downes and his service on HMCS Protector with the South Australian Naval Brigade, 1885-1911 and the Royal Australian Navy, 1911-1924. Collection consists of records related to Downes' service with various Naval Forces; references from various employers; copy of birth certificate; marriage certificate; a photograph of HMCS Protector; and a studio portrait photograph of Able Seaman Walter J Taylor, of HMCS Protector, taken in January 1900, prior to his departure for China (Boxer Rebellion). Also includes are various papers and letters pertaining to research into HMCS Protector undertaken by Mr Evan W Hiscock, 1963-1969.
