Description
Studio portrait of 2083 Private (Pte) John Alexander McGaffin, 3rd Reinforcements, 24th Battalion, of Ebden, Vic, in civilian clothes. Pte McGaffin enlisted on 12 July 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Anchises on 26 August 1915. He later served as a sergeant and returned to Australia on 15 May 1919 as a member of the 2nd Machine Gun Battalion. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) on 3 June 1919.
