Description
This collection contains two items which belonged to two nursing sisters in the Second World War: a letter and an identification card. The letter is from WX3316 Captain Ena Azalia Folland, Australian Army Nursing Service, (AANS) written from 3 Australian General Hospital in the Middle East to her mother in Western Australia. It is dated 11 May 1940 and provides a glimpse into the dangers and conditions of nursing there: the extreme heat during the day, freezing temperatures at night and a duststorm, are mentioned. The British Forces identification card belonged to WX3313 Captain Frances Edith Tupper, AANS and is dated 13 October 1941. Captain Tupper served with the 2/11 Australian General Hospital in the Middle East.
