Pears, Maurice Bertram (Lieutenant Colonel, b.1929)
Description
Collection relating to the Korean War service of 235017 Lieutenant (later Lieutenant Colonel) Maurice Bertram "Maurie" Pears MC, 3 Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), 1952.
The collection consists of a bound 10-page typescript of Pears' recollections of Dog Outpost and of a raid by 12 Platoon, D Company, 3RAR on Hill 227 (known as "John") on the night of 25 January 1952. He discusses the situation at the outpost, the reasonably civil relations with the Chinese, and the preparations and justification for the raid. The typescript also includes recollections of the raid by Sergeant John Bennett, who was 12 Platoon's platoon sergeant at the time.
