Studio portrait of either: 2722 Corporal (Cpl) Charles Thomas Francis Ross, 9th Reinforcements, 22nd Battalion, of Carlton, Vic; or 3543 Cpl Charles Frank Ross, 11th Reinforcements, 14th Battalion, of Bendigo, Vic. 2722 Cpl Ross enlisted on 22 June 1915 and embarked from Melbourne; aboard HMAT Nestor on 2 October 1916. He was transferred to the 6th Reinforcements, 59th Battalion on 21 February 1917 and was wounded in action on two occasions. On 28 November 1917 he was transferred to the 14th Training Battalion at Codford for a course of instruction in signalling. In June 1918 he suffered wounds to the right ankle and the right shoulder. He returned to Australia on 8 February 1919 and was discharged on 18 March 1919 medically unfit due to disability caused by a gun shot wound to the back. 3543 Cpl Ross enlisted on 9 July 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Nestor on 11 October 1915. He later served as a sergeant and was killed in action on 11 April 1917 at Bullecourt, France.
