Informal portrait of 6294 Sapper (Spr) Ernest Samuel Northey, 6th Reinforcements, 5th Field Ambulance, Australian Army Medical Corps, of Newcastle, NSW. Spr Northey enlisted on 14 July 1915 and embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Port Lincoln on 13 October 1915. On 23 March 1916 he transferred to the 4th Divisional Signal Company. Spr Northey was awarded the Military Medal (MM) on 9 October 1916 for, "...good work on the night of 31st August 1916 when repairing telephone lines for thirteen hours under very severe enemy shell fire..." Spr Northey died 10 November 1919 at Woodville Red Cross Home, Randwick Hospital, NSW.
