HP turbine blade from HMAS Canberra
Description
Slightly bent steel crescent-section turbine blade, 140mm long. Top edges are damaged with notches. Included is a 100mm x 110mm display base of unknown material, painted black with Dynatape label. Blade has detached from base.
History / Summary
Label on makeshift display base states that this item was removed from the aft engine room, port side, of the County Class cruiser HMAS Canberra during a refit in 1935 at Cockatoo Island dockyards. Canberra had been built by John Brown & Co Ltd and commissioned in 1928, and was sunk off Savo Island on 9 August 1942.
