The soldier on the left represents a member of the 1838 battle between the Voortrekkers and Zulus. The central soldier is representative of the 1899 South African War between the two independent Boer republics (the Orange Free State and the Transvaal Republic) and Britain. The soldier on the right is a contemporary Second World War soldier.
