Informal portrait of 121 Captain (Capt) Francis Palmer Selleck, A Company, 24th Battalion. Capt Selleck of Numurkah, Vic, enlisted on 9 March 1915 and was given the rank of Quartermaster Sergeant. He embarked with the 24th Battalion from Melbourne aboard HMAT Euripides on 10 May 1915. later promoted to the rank of captain, he was awarded the Military Cross (MC) on 24 September 1918 for gallant conduct while commanding carrying parties near Fleurs on 6 and 7 November 1916. After the war, Selleck was involved in establishing the Legacy Club in Melbourne with Stanley Savige and other ex-servicemen. In 1933 he was instrumental in having a seedling from Lone Pine, Gallipoli Peninsula, planted at Wattle Park in Melbourne. During the 1950s Sir Frank Selleck became Lord Mayor of Melbourne. He died on 2 October 1976 and his ashes were scattered under the tree which grew from this seedling.
