Description
Informal portrait of two Australian soldiers, Varty (left); and possibly 1127 Pte Clarence Cramer, 1st Reinforcements, 5th Battalion, of Bendigo, Vic (right). Pte Cramer enlisted on 22 December 1914 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Themistocles. He was wounded on 18 June 1915 at Dardanelles. On 15 December 1916 he suffered shell shock, concussion and a fractured spine and died of those wounds in Heilly, France.
