Description
Portrait of an unidentified young First World War nurse in full uniform, wearing a red cape. She is depicted against a blue background, decorated with fleur-de-lis. The artist's notation verso is that is "not a portrait". Private J.H. Cadell, served at the 2nd Australian General Hospital with the A.I.F in France. Some 2,692 Australian nurses volunteered with the Australian Army Nursing Service (AANS) serving at Australian General Hospitals in Egypt in 1914-15, at Gallipoli, on the Western Front in 1917, at Salonica in Greece, in India and on troopships and hospital ships during the First World War.
