Italian prisoner of war
Description
Head and shoulders portrait of an Italian prisoner of war wearing a jacket and shirt. Artist's description: "Many of these Italian prisoners of war though clad in filthy rags that were once uniforms, appear quiet, cheerful & well fed. They were kept well supplied with buscuits & bread by the Italian Red Cross, and the Pope. Some had boots but many wore wooden sabots in some cases patched up where they split by hoopiron."
