[Group of cottages]
Depicts a group of cottages along a road in France, near the 2nd Australian General Hospital. Two women are walking along the road. The high wall on the opposite side of the road encloses the grounds of the Chateau D'Honvault, used by Henry VIII of England as his headquarters during the conquest of Boulogne. Artist's description: "This group of cottages is situated on the bend of a road which is much used by motor lorries, Red Cross cars & other military vehicles. It is within a few minutes walk of 2nd A.G.H. on/the Boulogne side. The fronts of the houses are painted cream-colour & the roofs are covered with red tiles. The wall opposite the cottages encloses the grounds of Le Chateau D'Honvault, used by Henry VIII of England as his headquarters during the conquest of Boulogne. Untill (sic) a few months ago it was inhabited by the English Royal Academician Lionel Smythe."
