Description
Collection relating to the Boer War service of Private Percival John Yates, 1900-1902, South Africa. Collection consists of two diaries written by Yates providing an overview of the involvement of the 6th Regiment, New South Wales Imperial Bushmen and the 1st Battalion, Australian Commonwealth horse (NSW), in the Boer War. Yates returned to Australia in 1901, then re-elisted in 1902. As well as writing regular entries, Yates kept detailed lists of songs, mess members, his mess and pay accounts, signalling codes, money lent and addresses. In his memo of dates Yates provides information on the movement of the regiment and location of their camps, skirmishes they were involved in and deaths in the regiment.
