Beat back the Hun with Liberty Bonds
Description
United States poster raising money for war loans. This is a particularly striking work, using dramatic colours and nightmarish imagery to underline the perceived threat the German military machine posed to the safety of citizens of the United States. An enormous, grey-hued German looms up from behind a cobalt blue sea. His bloodied left hand grasps onto the stone ruins of a city. His right hand bears an equally bloody bayonet. The German, or 'Hun's', eyes are a baleful green. A bright yellow sky contrasts against the slate grey of the German figure.
