Parachute from parachute flare : Private D H Wilson, 2 Battallion, Royal Australian Regiment
Description
Small hexagonal silk parachute with eight outer string attachments, each reinforced with cotton tape and a brass eyelet. There is also a central string attachment. All strings present but damaged.
History / Summary
Related to the Korean War service of 3/1456 Private Donald Hugh Wilson, born Sea Lake, Victoria on 9 April 1929. Wilson served in Korea with 2 Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (2 RAR) from 25 February 1953 until 11 February 1954. Wilson recovered this parachute from a parachute flare whilst on patrol just north of the 38th Parallel in early 1953. It is believed to be of Chinese manufacture.
