Description
Studio portrait of 2215 Private (Pte) Stanley Sylvester Welsh, 4th Reinforcements, A Company, 24th Battalion, of Ballarat East, Vic. Pte Welsh enlisted on 15 July 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Hororata on 27 September 1915. He was wounded at Pozieres and returned to his unit in France after nine months. Pte Welsh was promoted to corporal the evening before going into battle. He was killed in action on 4 October 1917 at Passchendaele, Belgium.
