Description
Informal group portrait of three members of 75 Squadron RAAF outside a recreation hut, probably at their base at Gurney Airfield. From left to right: 402963 Pilot Officer (PO) Stuart Munro, 404062 Flying Officer (FO) Arthur J ('Nat') Gould and 406064 FO Jeffrey ('Pop') Woods. These three fighter pilots flew Kittyhawk aircraft during the decisive battles for Port Moresby and Milne Bay in 1942. PO Munro was killed in battle on 27 August 1942. FO Gould later joined the RAN as a founding member of the newly-formed Fleet Air Arm. FO Woods was credited with one fighter probably destroyed and another fighter damaged.
