Portrait of Lieutenant (Lt) Vincent Charles Callen MM, 34th Battalion. The inscription reads, "Merry X-mas, from Vince". Lt Callen, of Stockton, NSW, enlisted on 10 April 1916 and embarked from Sydney, NSW, aboard HMAT Hororata on 2 May 1916. He received a Military Medal (MM) on 20 December 1917 for his service with the 3rd Division, 9th Infantry Brigade, from 22 September 1917 to 25 February 1918. He was killed in action in France on 20 August 1918, aged 29 years.
