Pte Parker, who served in Korea with the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR) and Gnr Garland who served with the 16th New Zealand Field Regiment are both former prisoners of war (POW) who were released by the Chinese during Operation Big Switch in August 1953.
