Description
2/400030 Private (Pte) Robert (Bob) Parker (right) welcomes 203858 Gunner (Gnr) N G (Judy) Garland (centre) at Mascot Airport, as Gnr Garland passes through Sydney on his way home to New Zealand while Major Cohen (left) from the Australian Red Cross looks on. Pte Parker, who served in Korea with the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR) and Gnr Garland who served with the 16th New Zealand Field Regiment are both former prisoners of war (POW) who were released by the Chinese during Operation Big Switch in August 1953. Gnr Garland was the only New Zealand POW of the Korean War.
