Description

Maxwell Shean discusses his education and family background, joining the Royal Australian Naval Volunteer Reserve as sublieutenant, training in anti-submarine warfare at HMAS Rushcutter; appointment to HMS Bluebell in the Atlantic Ocean; joining the Royal Navy Midget submarine (X-Craft) 14th Flotilla at its inception; design features of the X-Craft, his paricipation in a midget submarine attack at Bergen (?) 14 April 1944. Cutting the commerative cable belwo Singapore and Saigon near the middle of the Mekong River. Discharge at the end of the war, completion of Bachelor of Engineering degree at the University of Western Australia. Joining the RANR as engineer lieutenant and retirement in 1956 as Lieutenant Commander.
