Studio portrait of three soldiers taken in Kempsey during the First World War. The soldier seated on the right is identified as 809 Private (Pte) John A Wright, 2nd Battalion, of Telegraph Point, NSW (originally of Beeton, Ontario, Canada). A bank clerk in Beeton, he came to Australia in 1913, and enlisted on 20 August 1914, embarking from Sydney, NSW aboard HMAT Suffolk on 18 October 1914. He was killed in action on the Gallipoli Peninsula on 2 May 1915, aged 26.
