Kojarina, near Geraldton, Western Australia. Informal portrait of 415152 Leading Aircraftman (LAC) Ray Kelly about to board an Avro Anson of Y Flight at 4 Service Flying Training School (4SFTS). LAC Kelly spent four months at the school, after graduating from 9 Elementary Flying Training School at nearby Cunderdin. LAC Kelly's logbook records that the month of March 1942 was spent practising formation flying, bombing, strafing and, on the final day of the month, performing his first night-time navigation flight. LAC Kelly underwent further training at the General Reconnaissance Schools (GRS) at Laverton and Cressy, Vic, from April to July 1942, and at 1 Operational Training Unit (1OTU), flying Hudsons until late October 1942. He was later was posted to 6 (Hudson) Squadron RAAF at Port Moresby on 28 October and by 21 November was flying supply drops to the Buna battlefield.
