Description
A fatigue party of the 9th Battalion digging soakage pits for use with urinals at the desert training camp about 10 miles from Cairo. The frames stacked on the right, made of metal or wicker, were associated with the soakage pits; they were possibly designed to hold rocks or gravel. Excreta were trucked 500 yards out of the camp by light rail and buried in a dump.
