Description
Studio portrait of 2944 Private (Pte) Oliver Llewellyn Griffiths, 9th Reinforcements, 5th Battalion, of Box Hill, Vic. Pte Griffiths enlisted on 29 June 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Star of Victoria on 10 September 1915. Pte Griffiths was promoted to lance corporal and was awarded the Military Medal (MM) on 26 September 1917 for bravery in the field. On 6 October 1917 he died of wounds which he received at Broodseinde Ridge, Belgium. His cousin, Edwin Griffiths was killed in action at Pozieres, France.
