Description
Studio portrait of 2919 Private (Pte) William Thomas Venable Young, 9th Reinforcements, 14th Battalion, of St Arnaud, Vic. Pte Young enlisted on 1 July 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Hororata on 27 July 1915. He later served as a Lance Corporal (LCpl). LCpl Young was killed in action on 11 April 1917 at Bullecourt France. His cousin, 3543 Sergeant Charles Frank Ross, 14th Battalion, of Bendigo, Vic, was also killed in action on the same day at Bullecourt.
